NEW YORK, NY, August 14, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With the US Open on the horizon, tennis enthusiasts of all ages in Westchester, Rockland and Connecticut will be in for a special treat when Hall of Famer John McEnroe comes to SPORTIME Lake Isle for a special morning clinic, meet and greet and autograph session on Saturday, August 24 from 10:00 to noon. McEnroe, the founder of the highly successful John McEnroe Tennis Academy (which has one of its annexes at SPORTIME Lake Isle) will be joined by a host of pros, led by All-American and former ATP Top 25 singles player and Top 5 doubles player and the new director of the JMTA Lake Isle Annex Fritz Buehning, for a morning of fun instruction and tennis at the area's newest state of the art facility.
"It is the time of the year when the whole area is talking tennis, with the start of the US Open coming, and we are excited to have John come to Lake Isle for what will be a memorable experience for all involved," said Eric Fromm, Sportime's Managing Director for Long Island and Westchester, and himself a former top 40 world-ranked player. "Our $6.5 million facility is the best in Westchester, and we are looking forward to showing it off with John's help and getting more people involved in the game."
The event will be held at SPORTIME Lake Isle, 660 White Plains Road in Eastchester. Young players will have the opportunity to take part in drills with the JMTA/SPORTIME staff and try out for several open spots for the fall session of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy. Now in its fourth year, the Academy, originated at SPORTIME Randall's Island, now has annexes in Bethpage, Long Island and Lake Isle as well. It is the fastest-growing and most progressive tennis academy in the country.
McEnroe will also introduce Buehning as the latest senior member of his team at JMTA. One of the most respected coaches in the game, the New Jersey native was a Pac 10 Player of the Year, NCAA Champion and All-American at UCLA before turning pro and eventually reaching a career high #21 in singles and #4 in doubles, with the highlight coming in 1983, when he partnered with Van Winitsky, to reach US Open Finals, losing to the legendary team of Peter Fleming and McEnroe.
The event on the 24rd is free, however, parents of children interested in playing are requested to register via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Updates will also be posted on the SPORTIME Lake Isle homepage at http://www.SportimeNY.com/Lake-Isle. Proper tennis attire must be worn.
