John T. 'Tom' Acre Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Government Operations

    DENVER, CO, April 20, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John T. 'Tom' Acre, founding consultant for AcresGreen and Associates and former Deputy City Manager of Commerce City, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in government operations.

With more than 14 years of professional experience in local government, 10 plus years of prior consulting and non profit experience including working with a variety of local and federal government agencies, coupled with a refined background in water and environmental science, Mr. Acre shines as an authority on issues related to city management, water, natural resources, and the environment. As Commerce City's Deputy City Manager, he managed various internal and external service departments and initiatives, which included acquisition of water resoures, championing the City's sustainability efforts, finance and budgeting, relationship facilitation with various agencies and the public. This work also included development of the Prairie Gateway Project (formerly a portion of the Rocky Mountain Aresenal), use of Natural Resource Damage Assessment funds for the NE Greenway Corridor, facilitating discussions on oil and gas/hydraulic fracturing operation regulation changes in response to citizen concerns, and numerous other projects enhancing the image of Commerce City, as well as assiting the City Manager where needed. He most recently oversaw finance, human resources and information technology and the city clerk's office. Also under his direction early in his tenure as Deputy City Manager were the public works, community development, and parks and recreation departments. He was also responsible for coordinating with the other deputy city manager on a range of operational issues and projects.

Attributing his success to his strong work ethic, people skills, trustworthiness and creative problem solving abilities, Mr. Acre strives for excellence in his every endeavor. For his diligent efforts, he was selected for the Executive Energy Leadership Program at the National Renewal Energy Laboratory by the U.S. Department of Energy and has been recognized by the Denver Regional Council of Governments for his long-term efforts related to regional collaboration as an active member of the Northeast Metro Win-Win Coalition. He became involved in the local government profession when Commerce City hired him to direct its long-term parks, trails and open space planning efforts, and implement a complex regional trail project with three other major cities and a non-profit in the Denver Metro area.

Mr. Acre received a Bachelor of Science in Geology, and a Master of Arts and Sciences in Environmental Sciences, with a concentration in Hydrogeology, both from Oklahoma State University. He is a registered professional geologist and is currently pursuing Certified Public Management (CPM) certification at the School of Public Affairs within the University of Colorado Denver. Mr. Acre remains abreast of industry trends and developments as a member of the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, and the International City/County Management Association.
