/24-7PressRelease/ - June 15, 2007 - Jonathan Fantini Porter, US Editor of the World Security Network, has been selected to represent the United States at the 2007 Russian Euro Atlantic Conference to be held in Moscow, Russia. The three day conference, beginning June 17th, is sponsored by the Association for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, Russian Youth Association for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation and the NATO Information Office in Moscow. As a nominee of the Atlantic Council of the United States, Jonathan's travel and stay in Moscow will be sponsored by the organizers.

This years' conference, 5 Years of NATO-Russia Council: Results and Prospects, brings together 40 young experts, policy makers and diplomats to discuss the future prospects for Russian-NATO relations with military, political and diplomatic officials. Notably, the young leaders will participate in discussions with Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, NATO Secretary General; Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov, Foreign Minister of Russia; Joseph Burns, US Ambassador to Russia; and Konstantin Kosachev and Vladimir Ryzhkov, Members of Parliament.

Jonathan Fantini Porter, a native of California, is the son of a former political prisoner and the Amnesty International member who waged an international campaign for his release. As Student Body President of his Southern California High School, he founded a chapter of AI which later established a cross-network of student advocates in the US. That year Jonathan was invited to meet with Executive Director Emeritus of Amnesty International, Jack Healy, in Boston, Mass. During this period, Jonathan also served as President of the chapter of Free the Children, which raised funds to provide running water and the first primary and secondary school to the rural community of Waslala, Nicaragua.

In 2002, Jonathan was elected Chairman of an Advisory Commission to the Speaker of the California State Assembly. As Chairman he led four subcommittees which produced legislative advise to the Speaker. For his work, Jon was one of forty students from across the country invited to join Elie Wiesel's Conference of Tomorrow's Leaders. Wiesel's Foundation for Humanity, later that year, awarded Jonathan a grant to establish what would become the Collegiate Forum.

Jon has interned in the office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney, US Congressman Howard L. Berman and United States Senator Dianne Feinstein, where he worked with the Senator's Legislative Assistant on Economic Policy to reinstate legislation which protects minority owned businesses in the federal bidding process.

As an undergraduate at Georgetown University, Jonathan served as President of the Collegiate Forum and Editor-in-Chief of its publication The Podium. During his time at the Forum, he doubled membership, introduced an online component, founded the American Policy Journal and increased the organization's capital by more than 32% in one year. In March 2007, the Wall Street Journal wrote a feature profile on Jonathan's innovative entrepreneurialism as former President of the Forum.

At Georgetown, Jonathan also wrote for the University's student newspaper, The Hoya, and was a member of the Men's Crew Team, Georgetown University Student Investment Fund, and President of the Georgetown and Palisades chapter of Young Democrats of America.

Jonathan is currently pursuing graduate studies at Harvard University and is Partner at the firm Denison & Porter.
