Victims and their families need to fully understand what damages can occur, such as injury, fatality, property damage; and why they may need a lawyer.
BIRMINGHAM, AL, June 25, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The roadways may become a little safer in Alabama due to a sizeable increase ($1.7 million) in additional highway funding passed down by Alabama Governor Robert Bentley. Birmingham car accident lawyer Jonathan W. Gathings says the increase could make a significant impact in road safety and also encourages drivers to take their part in reducing the impact of vehicle accidents statewide by educating themselves on what to do if they are involved in a car accident - and knowing who to call.
The $1.7 million in additional highway funding will be used to cover overtime for state troopers in an effort to increase road safety, and limit fatalities and injuries on roadways. Funding will also go towards the Alabama Department of Public Safety and Alabama regional traffic safety offices in order to conduct additional checkpoints and safety patrols.
"In addition to the increased funding, there needs to be more awareness on what to do if you are in a car accident," said Birmingham personal injury lawyer Jonathan Gathings. "Victims and their families need to fully understand what damages can occur, such as injury, fatality, property damage; and why they may need a lawyer."
Recent data ranks Alabama fifth in the county in highest number of fatalities cause by automotive collisions. Additionally, a recent study ranked the Birmingham-Hoover metro area sixth most dangerous urban zone for pedestrians in the country because of pedestrian-vehicle collisions. Mr. Gathings says that creating more awareness and education around car accidents and legal rights is vital to improving these statistics and creating safer roadways.
