Josee Roberge Named a VIP Member of Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Film Production

    MONTREAL, July 10, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Josee Roberge, a self-employed producer, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

When she was in college, Ms. Roberge had aspirations of making a film. Ten years later, she began working with a friend co-worker who started a production company. Together they produced a short film that won the award for Best Canadian Short Film. This was the beginning of her career as Producer. After starting as an assistant director and later working as a director at CBC, she moved into the film production industry. She has 26 years of experience in this industry and has been a self-employed producer for the last ten years. She has gained expertise in both national and European production. She supports and develops ideas with creators, locates partners and financing, works on film productions at all stages, manages film budgets and supervises each detail of production. She is involved in both the creative and the financial aspects of production. Ms. Roberge attributes her recongnition to her steady involvement in projects from start to finish, which is greatly appreciated by her colleagues. The highlight of her career has been traveling for one year through Canada and the United States to find French-speaking people for a tv show on TV5 Monde that she was directing. Currently, she is working on the financing and the pre-production of a large documentary series project in co-production with France and completing the development of a documentary series for children with a broadcaster in Quebec.

After completing a degree in Communications "Television" at Cegep de Jonquière in 1985, Ms. Roberge moved to Montreal and worked for several years as an assistant to the achievement and then as Director for TV5 and Radio-Canada. She then undertook a Minor in Film Studies at the University of Montreal. She is a member of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, APFTQ and FCTNM-WIFT. She received several nominations and awards at the Jutra Awards, the Genie and Gemini Awards for, among others, "Tea at the Embassy" in the Best Society Documentary category and Best Research Award in 2004. Her first feature film as a Producer was "The Left-hand Side of the Fridge," with Director Philippe Falardeau. The film received the Prix Best Quebec Film Award from the l'Association Quebecoise es critiques de cinema, the Best Canadian First Film Award, the Prix Claude Jutra Award, the Prix Genie Award and Best Screenplay for a First Feature Film by Prix-Radio Canada in 2001, and the Best Canadian First Film Award by Prix City TV at the International Toronto Film Festival in 2000. The film's lead actor Paul Ahmarani was honored with the Best Actor award at Gala Prix Jutra in 2001.

During Ms. Roberge's years at CBC, she has been the co-creator of the promotion campaign as a director for the new TV news station RDI and was honored at the New York Television Festival of 1996. Looking ahead, Ms. Roberge intends to develop and produce great projects and new films with young authors, in relations with co-producers, screenwriters and directors. She also aspires to start her own production company.
