Joseph John Pysh Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Neurology and Higher Education

Dr. Pysh is a founding member of the Neurology Department and the founding director of the Neurology Residency Program at Michigan State University

    EAST LANSING, MI, May 24, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joseph John Pysh has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Pysh has enjoyed a multifaceted career as a neuroanatomist, medical educator, administrator and clinical neurologist. Starting as an instructor in the Department of Anatomy at Northwestern University Medical and Dental Schools in 1966, he is now Professor Emeritus of Neurology at Michigan State University where he is highly regarded for his work as a founding member of the Neurology Department and the founding director of the Neurology Residency Program. Previously, he came to prominence as an assistant professor and associate professor of Anatomy at Northwestern University in Chicago. Known for his research in synaptic transmission and brain development, Dr. Pysh held additional noteworthy roles including acting chairman of Cell Biology and Anatomy at Northwestern University and subsequently Resident Physician in neurology at Northwestern University Medical Center. In recognition of his professional excellence, he was the recipient of various teaching awards from MSU and Northwestern University and numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health. In addition, he was selected for inclusion into Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.

Dr. Pysh prepared for his career by investing in his education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Wayne State University in 1958, a DO from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1962 and a Ph.D. in neuroanatomy in 1967 from Northwestern University. He is honored to be a fellow of the American College of Neuropsychiatrists, the American Neurological Association and the American Academy of Neurology. Currently, he is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Medical Association and the American Osteopathic Association. Previously, he was a member of the American Society of Cell Biology, the American Association of Anatomists, and the Society of Neuroscience. He has served as a grant referee for the National Science Foundation, was a member of a National Institutes of Health Neurology Research Grant Study Section, a CME neurology speaker and a contributor to numerous articles to professional journals.

Presently, this is Dr. Pysh's 55th year in medicine and his intention is to remain very much active as a Professor Emeritus: attending neurology resident clinics, lecturing neurology resident physicians and teaching medical students neurology and brain anatomy.
