Joyce Morrill Recognized for Innovation in Healthcare and Visual Arts

A retired social worker turned photographer, Ms. Morrill excels in verbal, written and visual communication

NEW YORK, NY, March 16, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joyce Morrill has been included in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Women, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

As an undergraduate English major (University of Hartford, 1964) trained in broadcast communication, Ms. Morrill launched her career as co-host of WHNBTV's "Today in Connecticut" where her deep interest in people and their stories inspired her to delve deeper and to make a difference through training as a clinical social worker.

She graduated from Hunter College School of Social Work in 1972 and served as a clinical social worker and field instructor (The Rehabilitation Institute). She became deeply engaged with the emerging mind/body paradigm and left traditional social work to found Wellness Services (1979). For the next 15 years she designed and presented, with professional colleagues, a variety of alternative health courses, workshops and programs for corporations, colleges, schools and organizations. She specialized in Stress Management and later, women's health issues, particularly menopause.

Ms. Morrill's enjoyment of writing and preparing visuals for her programs coupled with her passion for photography and travel, led her to transition to a second career in the visual arts. She embraced digital photography at its outset, further developed her skills at The International Center for Photography, and with her husband formed Morrill Support (1996) to present their combined and individual work in fine art, photography, fine art printing, digital imaging, retouching, graphic design, writing and editing and book production. Travels in India inspired the Morrills to collaborate on a travelling exhibition, "Infinite India: An Excess of Reality," shown in 4 venues including The United Nations.

In addition to her love of travel photography, Ms. Morrill is drawn to seascapes, often in Maine, or any place where light and water play. Though she has lived in, and loves, New York for over 50 years, Maine is where she was born and raised and a big piece of her heart is always there. She returns yearly with her family for renewal and inspiration.

Now well into her seventh decade, Ms. Morrill continues to travel, to photograph and to exhibit. She is a longtime member of Professional Women Photographers and The Pen and Brush, organizations dedicated to supporting women in the arts. She serves on the Advisory Council and as a founding member and guest curator of Queens Botanical Garden's Exhibition Committee where she and her husband work with the committee to bring relevant art exhibitions to the QBG Gallery. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Institute of Noetic Sciences and Compassion and Choices.

In this quieter but no less passionate time of her life. Ms. Morrill's focus in photography trends toward how people view and navigate end of life issues. A photo essay, "Dolly's Last Dance" (see on website) explores and honors her mother's last days and the impact on the extended family.
What she observes in herself and others is that times of dramatic transition, including death, open the doors of perception. She is exploring how the unknown and unseen but deeply felt can be expressed visually, verbally, and through the written word. Connection and communication using these three tools weave together the various phases of her life into a whole cloth and are the threads she follows as life progresses.
