Judy Cohen Prepares Mothers and Nursing Staff for Labor and Delivery



    PARKLAND, FL, November 9, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Judy Cohen, RNC, who has been a nurse at Northwest Medical Center for 14 years, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in obstetrical nursing.

Ms. Cohen has 34 years of experience in the health care field. Her position entails employing expert knowledge of labor and delivery, providing charge relief, and caring for high-risk obstetrical patients throughout various phases of their pregnancy. Ms. Cohen has utilized her knowledge, expertise and experience to author a number of publications. One of her recent publications "Helping Moms Get Healthier," was published in International Nurse in 2010. She published "Perinatal Bereavement: How Nurses Can Help" in Nursing Spectrum and has been published in the nursing journal AWHONN lifelines multiple times. Ms. Cohen is the creator of www.GetReady4Baby.com, an online resource of information for expectant mothers. Featured on her web site is her booklet "Having a Baby: A Nurse's Tips on Childbirth Preparation." Her booklet contains vital information on healthy pregnancy, preterm labor, when to go to the hospital, getting labor induced and cesarean section. She also has information on coping with labor, support for the coach, baby safety, baby blues, breastfeeding and getting ready for the baby She has multiple resources available on the web site for women. Ms. Cohen has also been a preceptor for new nurses and student nurses. She received her Master's Degree in Nursing in 2000 from Florida Atlantic University. She has taught many courses which include but are not limited to: introduction to fetal monitoring, perinatal bereavement, ob complications, postpartum hemorrhage, prevention of infant abduction and critical thinking skills. She has facilitated emergency drills for the nursing and medical staff which include shoulder dystocia scenarios. She also

served on a steering committee to develop the curriculum for and taught parts of a labor and delivery and mother baby course for HCA.

Attributing her success to her education and experience, Ms. Cohen knew from a young age that she wanted to be a nurse. She received her nursing diploma from the prestigious Hospital University of Pennsylvania in 1978 and worked at that institution for 10 years. She initially worked in medical surgical nursing as a staff nurse, then as the assistant head nurse in Labor and Delivery. In 1988, she earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing at LaSalle University. As a NCC-Certified Inpatient Obstetrical Nurse, she has since completed a range of field related studies and attained additional certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring. Prior to working in her current position, she was employed as a staff nurse at Boca Raton Community Hospital in the LDRP and Mother Baby unit and was the facilitator of a Perinatal Bereavement support group.

She also was the first Director of Obstetrical and Neonatal services at West Boca Medical Center where she opened up and ran the OB/Neonatal unit from 1988-1998. During this time, in recognition of her exceptional work she received the Nurse Manager Award from National Medical Enterprise (NME).

Ms. Cohen remains current in her field through affiliation with various professional organizations such as (PLIDA) Pregnancy Loss and Infant Death Alliance and AWHONN. In the years to come, Ms. Cohen hopes to pursue ongoing educational opportunities to provide excellence in nursing and patient education.
