Dr. Mitchel Katz talks about Children's Awareness Month to raise awareness for ADHD and Autism.

ROCKY HILL, CT, June 07, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) affects one in three children in classrooms across the country. The statistics on autism are equally as surprising - one in 68 children have autism spectrum disorder (ASD). One in six children had a developmental disability between the years of 2006 to 2008.

These statistics and more are among the reasons why Connecticut ADHD Dr. Mitchel G. Katz, MD of Connecticut ADHD Associates wants to raise awareness for both ADHD and ASD during Children's Awareness Month. Researchers are interested in discovering why so many young children in school are being diagnosed with these disorders and how to best treat them so that they can successfully transition and blossom into healthy adults.

Dr. Katz runs a specialty medical practice where he sees both children and adults who suffer from these common disorders. ADHD is one of the most concerning, with its high prevalence in school-aged children. These conditions cause children to struggle in school and in life. They have difficulties with everything from paying attention in class to communicating in social settings.

"ADHD is the most common neurobehavioral disorder in children and is among the most prevalent chronic health conditions affecting young children. This is a serious issue that needs more attention," he explains.

Besides education and advocacy regarding developmental conditions in children, Dr. Katz' main goal is to treat these cases so that the children and their parents can live happy, normal lives. The focus is on testing, making the right diagnosis and then instituting an effective and comprehensive treatment plan for each patient. He sees significantly positive results in his patients by boosting their self-esteem, providing therapy, working with school programs and maintaining an open line of communication with their parents. The commitment of the parents is a key element to helping children who struggle with these issues effectively manage them. When everyone is on the same page, the treatment process goes more smoothly.

Parents looking for help with ADHD or autism in their children who are located in or near central Connecticut are encouraged to call Dr. Katz or visit MitchelKatzMD.com to schedule an initial appointment.
