/24-7PressRelease/ - December 25, 2007 - Kanekoa, the only Rock band on the planet fronted by 2 electric ukuleles, is definately going places.

Lead singer/Rhythm ukulele player, Kaulana Kanekoa and lead ukulele player, Vince Esquire's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" has been Number 1 on the iTunes Folk Charts in the US, Canada, Austrailia, New Zealand, Ireland, France and Great Brittan.

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was made famous worldwide by Hawaiian artist Isreal Kamakawiwaoole, his version has been heard in many feature films, television shows and commercials for years. The "Maui Version" was recorded at Manao Radio Studios on September 11, 2005, by Barry Shannon, in Wailuku, Hawaii.

In the US, "Somewhere" has out performed other versions by Patti LaBelle, Chet Baker, Tony Bennett, Tori Amos, Wilie Nelson, Judy Garland, Placido Domingo, and Phish. In Canada, the song has out performed other versions by Katharine McPhee, Isreal Kamakawio'ole, Pati La Belle, Tori Amos and Chet Baker. In the UK, and Australia, the song outpaces other versions by, Isreal Kamakawio'ole, Patti LaBelle, Tori Amos, Willie Nelson, Chet Baker, Tony Bennett, Tom Jones, and Placido Domingo

"Somewhere" is an iTunes exclusive, having been released in October of 2005 on Major Hana Records debut album, "Ohana - Volume 1". The song has garnered 25,000 downloads to date, not bad for an independant record label based in Maui's rain forrest. The 'Ohana Compilation is a rare Hawaiian release in that it combines the finest in traditional Hawaiian music with some of the most fresh, exciting, contemporary, Hawaiian material, from some of Maui's most talented bands and vocalists.

Kanekoa's "Somewhere" is the second top selling version of the song in the US, Austrailia, and Denmark; and the third top selling version in Canada, Ireland, Italy, and Germany. The song still charts in many countries' Top 100 Folk Charts.

"Somewhere" has also shown up on the soundtrack for "Marylin Hotchkiss Ballroom Dancing and Charm School", starring Danny DeVito, John Goodman, and Robert Carlisle, "The Pride of Brittan", featuring Tony Blair on the BBC, and many US PGA Golf tournament broadcasts.

Look for Kanekoa to tour the USA in early 2008.

"Under The Coconut Sky" is a Major Hana Records release, and is distributed by Fontana/Universal.
