    ROCKVILLE, MD, November 7, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karen A. Cieslewicz, a Physician Consultant for Karen A. Cieslewicz, MD, CEM, FAcEM and Adjunct Faculty for the United States Department of Homeland Security, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in disaster and emergency management.

Dr. Cieslewicz became involved in the field of health care because while working as a research assistant in the vascular surgery department, she was called upon to help the first responders during the September 11 disaster. Now a nationally renowned and recognized physician in the field of disaster response, she has 12 years of medical experience in disaster and emergency management. Serving as a physician consultant for her private practice and an adjunct faculty for the United States Department of Homeland Security, consulting on emergency management concerning issues of weapons of mass destruction with comparison analysis of Israeli techniques is just one of the many responsibilities she is entrusted with.

Holding dual roles, Dr. Cieslewicz is charged with several duties, where she uses the skills she gained throughout her career. In addition to evaluating patients, performing minor surgeries, and administering pre- and post-operative care for patients, she also consults on all aspects of disaster management, including mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery, medical planning and exercises in accordance with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program of Joint Commission. As an adjunct professor for the United States Department of Homeland Security, she also develops curricula in emergency management and disaster medicine.

In 2001, Dr. Cieslewicz became the holder of an MD, earned from the School of Medicine of Ross University. Seven years later, she earned a Master of Arts from American Public University. She is a Certified Fire Service Instructor I, II and III via the National Fire Protection Association, a Certified Weapons of Mass Destruction Instructor by the United States Department of Homeland Security, and a National Certified Emergency Medical Technician.

She holds memberships with the Civil Air Patrol, Safety and Technical Rescue Association, American Board for Certification in Homeland Security, National Disaster Medical System, The National Association of EMS Educators, and the American Physicians Fellowship, just to name a few. In 2009, she was named Outstanding Graduate of the Year by the Distance Education and Training Council, and received the Presidential Inaugural Scholar from Delta Epsilon Tau. She attributes her success to her personality, tenacity, excellence and perseverance, and looking ahead, she aspires to become an integral part of academics.
