BACKUS, MN, January 28, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karen Marie Eveland, Retired Family Nurse Practitioner at The College of St. Scholastica, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in nursing.

Now retired from the profession, Ms. Eveland spent 50 years of her life devoted to the health care industry. During this time, she became knowledgeable of many significant aspects of the field. However, her specialties included diabetes, women's health, pediatrics and family practice. The last years of her career were spent with The College of St. Scholastica, which benefited greatly from Ms. Eveland's outstanding expertise.

At her alma mater, she taught public health and handled matters related to obstetrics and gynecology, clinical work, and ambulatory care. She also conducted workshops for sixth-graders with sexuality issues, adults with depression and reproduction issues, and seniors with health care issues. Her work was vast and covered many different sectors of the field - Ms. Eveland even taught babysitting classes for the county.

Her success as a family nurse practitioner is due largely to the excellent client relationships she established over the years. However, she would not have reached such great heights without a solid educational background. Ms. Eveland holds a master's degree in family practice from The College of St. Scholastica. She earned this degree in 2000, but has always drawn from the nursing foundation she received at the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in 1962.

Although retired, Ms. Eveland retains membership to the Minnesota Nurses Association, and she volunteers much of her free time. She works with a local Sunday school and serves as a choir director in her spare time. She still hopes to contribute to the nursing profession, nevertheless; her goal is to establish a nurse practitioner role in home care.
