-- Kathleen L. Holmes, Assistant Professor at Darton College, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.
A devoted educator with two decades of experience, Ms. Holmes is driven by seeing the "light bulbs" of understanding go off on her students' faces. She has honed her expertise in sociological theory and social construction of gender and race throughout her career. For the past six years, Ms. Holmes has served as an assistant professor at Darton College. Her role entails teaching Introduction to Sociology courses, Social Problems and one history class. She strives to engage her students through lively discussions to increase their interest and understanding of the subject. Furthermore, Ms. Holmes has done public speaking on the topic of social construction of race. She attributes her success to her passion for her work.
Ms. Holmes holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and a Master of Arts degree in sociology, both from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. She recently completed 18 hours of studies in history and was accepted to participate in workshops with the National Endowment for the Humanities. She remains current in her field through affiliation with the American Sociological Association, American Association of University Professors, Southern Poverty Law Center, NAACP and other professional organizations. Looking toward the future, Ms. Holmes aims to write a textbook that incorporates history and sociological theory for use in either discipline. She also aspires to pursue a doctorate.
