BALTIMORE, MD, May 27, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The cofounder of the Small Business Survival Summit urged Maryland business owners to celebrate Small Business Week by becoming more adept at business practices that will make them successful.

"Small business is the core strength of the American economy," says summit creator Patrick Chambers. "More than half of all Americans either own or work for a small business. And while there's a lot of talk about creating jobs, let's remember that small businesses create 60 to 80 percent of new jobs."

The first-ever Small Business Survival Summit, scheduled for Sept. 7 - 9, in Baltimore, expects between 2,500 and 3,000 participants and will offer seminars in areas of leadership, organization, sales, marketing and social media marketing. It will also provide the backdrop for business owners to mingle and network during the three-day conference and offer a fundraising gala to benefit the Maryland Children's Alliance.

The featured speaker at the summit is former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, who will speak about leadership in the midst of change and crisis on Sept. 8, three days before the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11.

The Small Business Survival Summit is the result of the small business advocacy work of WebIXI Inc. (www.WebIXI.com), a small, family owned website design company in Harford County, Md.

Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has proclaimed National Small Business Week to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the economic well-being of America. The Small Business Administration estimates that there are 27.2 million small businesses in the United States.

"National Small Business Week is a great reminder of the importance of small business in our economy. Every business owner should take pride in the contribution their company makes to their family, employees and community as they chase their dreams," says Chambers. "We are very fortunate, but we're facing difficult times. We need to be sure that we stay focused on our dreams and how we will achieve them. The Summit is where, collectively, we will do that."
