Investment management entrepreneur, Mr. Winans boasts an extensive history serving as a portfolio manager, investment analyst, and financial writer. Working for several exceptional companies, including Merrill Lynch & Company Inc., he eventually took a leap of faith and formed Winans Investments, an independent and privately owned, registered investment advisory firm in Novato, CA in 1992. Starting small with just seven clients, he put his vision into action with a primary focus of establishing a firm that included an investment strategy that would provide an effective defense to minimize losses and providing innovative investment solutions by way of a proprietary portfolio management system.

Twenty years later, Winans Investments was named among the Best of Best at the Barron's Winner's Circle Top Independent Advisors Summit. Building a successful reputation over the course of the past 25 years through unique investment management style and research history, his firm continues to help investors by managing equity and fixed-income investments by use of an extensive and proven track record, a wealth of experience, and hedging techniques that include common stocks, real estate investment trusts, corporate and municipal bonds, and preferred stocks.

Mr. Winans is known for having pioneered the development of five investment indexes with 28 sub-indices and technical trend indicator that are used by major financial and academic institutions. He has also contributed to the field by authoring four award-winning books: "Investment Atlas II - Using History as a Financial Tool", which won the 2017 Independent Publisher Book Awards in Finance/Investment/Economics; "Preferred Stocks - The Art of Profitable Income Investing", a 2011 National Best Book Award in Investments; "Investment Atlas - Financial Maps to Investment Success", which received the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Awards in Finance"; and "Preferred - Wall Street's Best-Kept Income Secrets", a 2007 recipient of a National Best Book Awards in Business.

While working toward a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics at the University of San Diego, Mr. Winans earned his real estate license and worked part-time for California Brokers and later worked for EF Hutton & Company conducting investment analysis. He then began pursuing a Master of Science in Finance at the University of San Francisco, during which time he worked in the research department at Sutro & Company. As a Chartered Market Technician, he spent time with Chicago based Compass Investment Group as Technical Research Director, and later worked with Merrill Lynch as a registered investment advisor. Mr. Winans also taught as an adjunct faculty member at Saint Mary's College of California in their graduate school for from 1996 to 2001.

Mr. Winans serves as a trustee for a number of non-profit organizations: The Space Station Museum; The W Foundation; the USS Hornet Museum; the Society of California Pioneers; and The Holland Society of New York. He served on various boards, including for The Museum of American Finance in New York City, the San Francisco Fleet Week Association, and the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland, among others. Furthermore, Mr. Winans was the founding president of the San Francisco Chapter of The Market Technician Association, and is currently a senior member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute.
