Kiyoshi Itoh, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

A retired professor of laboratory of information and systems engineering, as well as a current visiting professor in the department of information and communication sciences, at Sophia University, Dr. Itoh first became employed at the university in 1979. Until the latter part of 2007, he worked for Sophia University in the department of mechanical engineering. He also served as chairman of the department of information and communication sciences and the Sophia Education Research Center for Information Science for several years.

Dr. Itoh's research interests included domain analysis and modeling, software engineering, collaboration and concurrent engineering, knowledge-based system, and simulation and evaluation methodology. Throughout his career, he has conducted joint researches on domain engineering with several Japanese companies and universities as well as joint researches on systems development process.

One of Dr. Itoh's proudest accomplishments in all his years in engineering included the establishment of the methodology for research and education on information systems and their development process. He has contributed to the field by authoring 20 books, over 80 journal articles, and more than 120 conference papers, and has supervised 10 doctors, and 70 masters in their graduate courses and 180 bachelors in their undergraduate course at Sophia University. He was the co-editor of the book "Domain Oriented Systems Development: Principles and Approaches" in 1998, and "Domain Oriented Systems Development: Perspectives and Practices" in 2002. He was also the area editor of the Society for Design and Process Sciences (SDPS) Journal, dating back to 2001.

The recipient of a Distinguished Service Award in 2006 and a Fellowship Award in 2010, which was granted by the Society for Design and Process Science (SDPS), Dr. Itoh also received a Lifetime Service Award in recognition of his work in the field. A fellow of SDPS, where he served as vice president from 2012 to 2013, Dr. Itoh is also a longstanding member of the Computer Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Association of Computing Machinery, the Information Processing of the Society of Japan, and The Institute of Electronics, Information, and Communication Engineers, Information Processing Society of Japan and is a senior member of The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. He has been a PC member of many conferences since 1996 as well, including the Integration of Design and Technique Conference, the International Conference on Software Engineering Theory and Practice, the European Concurrent Engineering Conference, and the International Conference on Software Reuse.
