DETROIT, MI, May 06, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- The historic Kresge Building sat vacant and unused for many years just like many of the other once beautiful buildings located in Downtown Detroit. Recently, Dionysia properties acquired the Kresge Building and has set forth a complete remodeling of the entire site. This huge project is still underway, but the improvement is very apparent as you walk through the building. This classic Detroit landmark will be turned into a downtown mall that will house over 100 stores and boutiques that will benefit Metro Detroiters from all walks of life. From high end clothes, shoes and accessories to food items from many different vendors, the Shops in the Kresge Building is sure to be a hit for the crowds of people that fill the downtown area each and every day.
The sneak preview featured free food and drinks for all comers and also showcased a Detroit music revue with many different talented singers and musicians. On hand were many members of the media, city dignitaries and people interested in seeing the changes made in this once bustling building. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and excitement as the band played a selection of hits chosen from Detroit's classic music as the attendees toured the entire area that has been redone in the past few months.
Downtown Detroit is going to benefit heavily from this. Not only does it fill the need for shoppers and city workers looking for lunch, but it also fills a need for an area that local business owners and entrepreneurs can develop their business and gain exposure for their products and services. Detroit is showing its potential with this development along the Woodward Corridor that has taken on a new face over the past five years.
Space is still available inside and prospective business owners should invest some time into seeing if this new development is a good fit for them. Project managers are on site daily while the finishing touches are being applied. With a grand opening scheduled for this Summer, the face of Downtown Detroit is changing more for the positive each day and The Shops in the Kresge looks to be another step in the right direction for the City of Detroit.
About The Shops in the Kresge Building: The Kresge Building site first opened to the public in 1899. Sebastian Spering Kresge founded his company with the concept of selling quality goods for five to ten cents. By 1912, the S.S. Kresge Corporation became incorporated with 85 stores. This continued until 1977 when the company officially changed its name to the K-mart corporation. The Kresge Department Store in Detroit closed its doors for good in 1982. Now in 2009, The Kresge Building has been transformed to offer Detroit a completely remodeled interior that can house over 100 different retail shops.
