Lands' End launches free repair service... and a commitment to sustainable fashion

OAKHAM, ENGLAND, October 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Home shopping clothing specialist Lands' End UK has launched an innovative new free repair service as an antidote to disposable fashion.

The brand has assembled a team of trusty seamstresses at its Rutland headquarters who are poised to weave their magic on missing buttons, blown seams and broken belt loops - whether it's trousers, shirts or skirts.

Lands' End UK Managing Director Tim Curtis said: "At Lands' End we make clothes that last but we know that, from time-to-time, a much-loved item might need some care and attention and that's where our repair service comes in.

"We deplore the waste implicit in disposable fashion and our clothes come with a lifetime guarantee. So, if your favourite Lands' End piece should need mending, we are now offering to repair rather than just replace or refund it. We want to do our part to reduce the mountain of clothing sent to landfill each year. This is what we mean by sustainable fashion."

Lands' End has launched the service in response to feedback from customers who have told the business they would rather have items mended - especially when they have reached the perfectly 'worn-in' stage or are no longer available in the range. Under the brand's lifetime guarantee, the item will be mended and returned within two weeks of receipt.

The new service comes as the UK government is continuing to put pressure on UK high street retailers to tackle the environmental impacts of our fast-fashion culture. In February the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) launched its Sustainable Clothing Action Plan, aimed at reducing the two million tonnes of clothing that is sent to landfill each year.
