LOS ANGELES, CA, April 30, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Los Angeles Police Department is conducting sobriety checkpoints in Los Angeles this weekend. The LAPD has recently increased the frequency of roadside sobriety checkpoints in an effort to reduce alcohol-related collisions. Also known as Vision Zero, this is in support of the City of Los Angeles' goal to end traffic collision-related deaths. DUI checkpoints time and locations are as follows:

- Ventura Boulevard at Kester Avenue in Sherman Way, California - Saturday, April 30, 2016, 8 P.M. to Sunday, May 1, 2016, 2 A.M.
- La Brea Avenue at Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles, California - Saturday, April 30, 2016, 8 P.M. to Sunday, May 1, 2016, 2 A.M.
Locations of the checkpoints are subject to change or cancellation.

In just three years, more than 2,800 people have been injured, and another 60 have died in over 7,000 drunk driving accidents in Los Angeles. DUI-related collisions are highly preventable. If you are planning a night out that includes alcohol, plan to also designate a non-drinking driver. These DUI checkpoints and safe driving habits can help keep everyone safe, but they can also help you avoid the often costly consequences of a DUI arrest.

Being arrested for a DUI or being found in violation of California VC 23154 (a) can result in serious consequences that can include:

- Fines and penalty assessments of at least $1,000
- Jail sentences of 48 hours or more
- License restrictions
- License suspensions
- Mandatory completion of alcohol offender treatment program
- Loss of license
- Attachment of an interlock breath device in some cases

The consequences can go beyond the legal aspects and can enter the personal, social, and professional lives of those affected. Many who have been arrested for drunk driving find that their insurance rates are affected, and because they must rely on alternate transportation, their social and personal lives can suffer. A conviction can have lasting ramifications for many in the professional realm and may affect a person's job opportunities for many years to come.
