A certified clinical hypnotherapist in California and Colorado, Dr. Middleton-Downing holds a number of higher degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts in English literature, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Colorado, as well as a Master of Social Work from the University of Denver, and a Doctor of Clinical Hypnotherapy from the American Institute of Hypnotherapy. Her professional affiliations range from the American Association of University Women and the Daughters of the American Revolution to the International Association for Regression Research and Therapies, Inc., and the Natural Resources Defense Council. Throughout her many years in the field, she has contributed her expertise to a number of creative works that have been shown in nearly 20 one-woman shows.

In addition to her personal accomplishments, she has earned many awards for her work in the field, including winning the Juried Exhibition Merit Award through the Colorado Women in the Arts in 1979.
