Lauralyn W. Kontis Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Special Education

Lauralyn W. Kontis

    LITTLEROCK, CA, February 6, 2012 /Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Lauralyn Kontis, Teacher of the Severely Handicapped for the Lancaster School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in special education. She was selected as a VIP Member in 2010.

With 12 years of experience in the field of education, Ms. Kontis has expertise in teaching children with severe disabilities. In her position with the Lancaster School District, she works with students who have autism, negative behavior and mental health issues. She ensures that social, physical and medical needs of all students are met, including tube and hand feeding, toilet training, and daily language skills to promote independence. Ms. Kontis is also responsible for developing curriculum, creating daily lessons and writing individualized education programs. Previously, she worked as a first-grade teacher for the Eastside Union School District.

Ms. Kontis earned a master's degree in special education from California State University in 2007. She holds California state credentials for teaching the severely handicapped and for multiple subject teaching. Committed to broadening her scope of knowledge in the years ahead, she keeps abreast of changes in her field as a member of the National Association of Special Education Teachers. She attributes her success to the support she has received from her mentors and other special education professionals.
