/24-7PressRelease/ -- The legal job board has not been adversely affected in its efforts by the slumping job market and has surpassed a slew of other legal job boards with its current collection of jobs. ''This is despite the job losses reported by the Labor Department,'' says A. Harrison Barnes, founder and CEO of LawCrossing.
According to the latest data released by the US Department of Labor, employment in the legal services sector has dropped by 1.3%, a loss of 15,600 jobs since May 2007. According to the report, there were 1,165,100 jobs in the legal sector in September, as compared to 1,180,700 jobs in May 2007. Overall, the US job market lost 159,000 jobs in September, of which 2,000 were in the legal sector.
''The wave of economic turbulence has taken out thousands of jobs from various industries. In the legal industry, the most affected practice areas have been finance and real estate. Recently, the white-shoe national law firm Heller Ehrman dissolved, stranding over 500 employees. Additionally, various law firms have reduced the size of their summer associate programs in light of the weakening economy, and some firms have been strictly evaluating employee performances in order to indirectly cut staff. ''The economy is in a crisis all right. But the flip side to every crisis is another opportunity.
