Leonard Martin Richards Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Richards has more than 50 years of rich and varied experience spanning investment management, executive coaching, research authorship and non-profit development. For more than 25 years he managed investments for wealthy individuals and institutions, building and managing two successful investment organizations in the proves. Then, combining the experience and insights he has gained with additional education and training, he established an advanced executive coaching approach that helps other professionals to deepen their insights and expand their capabilities. Meantime, he and a Board he selected grew a small youth shelter into a major non-profit organization with a range of programs for youth-at-risk, including a charter school with residential facilities.

Born in 1935 to Leonard Martin and Marion Clara Richards., Dr. Richards was guided by his family's traditional values and inspired by exceptional mentors who encouraged him to pay forward the many gifts they offered. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Finance at Pennsylvania State University served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1965, earning the reserve rank of Captain. IN 1963, he earned his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.

Dr. Richards began his investment career as assistant to the senior partner of Van Cleef, Jordan and Wood. Some years later he joined Peter L. Bernstein at Bernstein-Macauley, an experience that exposed him to high achievers who would go on to hold top positions in government and finance. In 1972 Dr. Richards became a voting stockholder of G.H. Walker, Laird & Company, organizing an investment group for the firm. As the Walker firm was undergoing several mergers, Dr. Richards moved to Texas, taking charge of Republic Bank's pension fund equities and delivering first quartile investment performance for its clients, including several Fortune 100 companies. In 1977, he joined fledgling Variable Annuity Life Insurance Company (VALIC) as Senior Investment Officer and member of the Executive Committee, helping build the Company into a major factor in its field. In 1988, his work at VALIC completed, Dr. Richards left active investment management.

Taking an entirely new direction in his career, Dr. Richards became full-time President of L.M. Richards & Company, a firm he founded in 1982, changing its primary focus from quantitative research to consulting and executive coaching. He spent years with successful coaches, humanistic psychologists and leaders in human development; then, at the age of 65, Dr. Richards earned his Doctorate in Counseling from the Universal Seminary. He now heads a coaching organization, Lenan Partners, based on his advanced coaching process. Today, Dr. Richards divides his time between vouching senior executives and young entrepreneurs and working with autistic children at a brain-based psychological clinic, continuing to pay forward the gifts he received from others.

Several civic organizations have named Mr. Richards as an honored trustee, including the PAIRS Foundation, the Universal Seminary, and the Post Oak School in Houston. He has served in leadership roles for Capital Institutional Services and Houston Chorale, and is affiliated with the ACFA Institute, the Houston Society of Financial Analysts, the Warton Club, and the Houstonian Club. For his achievements as both a financial industry leader and a humanitarian, Dr. Richards was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and the 2001 and 2004 volumes of Who's Who in the World. He enjoys skiing, travel, classical music, jazz and scuba.
