In the early days of the AIDS crisis, Dr. Lester Gottesman became world renowned for his treatment of AIDS patients.

    NEW YORK, NY, February 12, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Lester Gottesman, a colorectal surgeon associated with Mt. Sinai Roosevelt (formerly Roosevelt Hospital) has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in colorectal surgery.

In the early days of the AIDS crisis, Dr. Lester Gottesman became world renowned for his treatment of AIDS patients. Over the past three and a half decades, he has published many papers and pioneered treatment regimens for HIV/AIDS patients. He is now very involved in the care of patients with Anal Intraepithelial Neoplasia and anal Human Papilloma Virus infection. He treats patients with all manner of colorectal disease including complicated anorectal fistula and infection, disorders of fecal incontinence and constipation, including pelvic floor disease, rectal prolapse, anal fissures and hemorrhoidal disease, and pruritus ani. He treats many patients with combined Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) who have combined underdiagnosed associated pelvic floor problems. Most anorectal surgeries and all diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopies are done in an NY State certified office setting under monitored anesthesia. This allows for efficient scheduling and significant cost saving. Most patients are in and out within an hour, saving hours in hospital-based procedures.
Dr. Gottesman's areas of expertise include all aspects of colon/rectal surgery, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, diverticular disease and functional disease of the anus, colon and rectum.

Dr. Gottesman completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Ferguson Clinic in 1987, having attended fellowship training in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 1985, and having finished a residency training in surgery at Roosevelt Hospital in 1983. He earned an MD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1978. He was certified by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and has recertified twice. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliation with the American College of Surgeons and American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. In 2012, Dr. Gottesman has received a Top Doctor Award from Castle Connolly for each of the past 25 years, and he has also been presented with Patients' Choice Awards from Vitals and Top Doctor distinction from "New York Magazine Best Doctors" from 2003 to 2011. He has presented lectures at numerous venues and published over 50 papers and book chapters. In years to come, Dr. Gottesman intends to continue providing quality care for his patients with individualized and compassionate attention to all their needs.
