/24-7PressRelease/ - March 05, 2006 - Meaning 'only single number allowed', the aim of the Sudoku puzzle is to enter a number from 1 through 9 in each square of the 9x9 grid made up of 3x3 sub grids (called 'regions'), starting with various numbers given in some cells (the 'givens'). Each row, column and region must only contain one instance of each number.

"SkillPod users will soon realize that they require the logic of numbers rather than the encyclopedic knowledge necessary to solve crossword puzzles," commented Mark van Diggelen, CEO of SkillPod.com parent company, Trafficonomy.com. "It exercises the mind and keeps it alert."

"Players who have mastered Sudoku and need another challenge can now play a related type of Japanese puzzle, Kakuro. Also known as Cross Sums or Kakro in Japan, it has only recently entered the UK.

A Kakuro consists of a playing area of filled and empty cells similar to a crossword puzzle. Some black cells contain a diagonal slash from top left to bottom right with numbers in them, called 'the clues'. A number in the top right corner relates to an 'across' clue and one in the bottom left a 'down' clue.

The object of a Kakuro is to insert digits from 1-9 into the white cells to total the clue associated with it. However no digit can be duplicated in an entry. For example the total 6 you could have 1 and 5, 2 and 4 but not 3 and 3. "Sound simple? Be warned it gets hard and is as addictive as Sudoku," concludes van Diggelen.
