With the end of Libya's pariah status comes a desire to develop the economy. Western businesses are being invited to help in the reconstruction and share in the profits.

/24-7PressRelease.com/ -- London, UK, October 8th 2004 - Libya is open for business. Investors are rushing to capitalise on the potential for contracts in the construction, energy and tourism industries. However, many are finding doing business in Libya a difficult affair. A UK based cross cultural consultancy is now training and preparing business personnel going to Libya, helping them maximise the potential of their visits.

On September 1st 2004, Libya's leader, Colonel Qadhafi, addressed the General People's Congress to celebrate the Great September Revolution on 1969. In it he reaffirmed his intentions for economic expansion.

Key to achieving this goal is collaboration with foreign companies. Contractors are rushing to the country to join in the push to help in the reconstruction of the infrastructure and to explore for natural resources, namely oil and gas.

Feedback from business personnel reports of frustrating communication problems, protracted negotiations and a crippling bureaucracy. Although the country is open for business, is it ready for business?

Kwintessential, a London based cross cultural communications consultancy, argues that a part of the problem is the lack of preparation being made by Western business personnel. To assist, they have launched a new training course designed to help overcome many of the above mentioned difficulties. The training course is delivered in conjunction with leading experts on Libya, drawing on their insider knowledge of the government, economy, business sectors and laws.

Neil Payne, Kwintessential’s director points to the major areas the ‘Get Ahead in Libya’ course addresses; “You need to understand that Libya is undergoing a radical overhaul at present. Firstly, Libyans and Americans or Europeans are not used to dealing with one another. Understanding the cultural differences in business practices is crucial. Secondly, Libya’s infrastructure, bureaucracy, laws and economic policy are complex. If you do not recognize how, where, when and why business takes place in Libya, it can be very frustrating.â€

In our global economy factors such as an understanding of a country’s political, social and economic profile, plus knowledge of cross cultural differences in business practices are proving to be invaluable tools to promoting cross border business and trade.
