Light Up the Night: Discover Greenland's Northern Lights with Quark Expeditions

Strongest Aurora Borealis since 1859 makes for exceptional viewing in fall 2012.

SEATTLE, WA, February 13, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This autumn, Quark Expeditions, the world leader in polar expedition travel, is taking a select group of passengers to Greenland to experience the Northern Lights first hand. Passengers will watch and photograph the night skies as sparkling bands of green, yellow and red light dance across the night sky. During the day, expedition participants will have the opportunity to hike in some of the most pristine wilderness on the planet, spot numerous whales and seals, and visit with remote Inuit communities as they prepare for winter.

"The Northern Lights are the brightest on record since 1859, and are known to be most active around the spring and autumn equinoxes," stated Hans Lagerweij, President of Quark Expeditions. "Because Quark has been sailing Greenland's remote coast for decades, we know all the best places for amazing views, hiking, trekking, and discovering local culture."

Beginning and ending in Reykjavik, expedition participants will explore the cosmopolitan capital of Iceland before crossing the Denmark Strait and going up the coast of East Greenalnd to Ittoggortoormiit.

Quark is recognized for its diverse passenger fleet - including the only polar-class icebreaker operating as an expedition ship in Antarctica. In 2011, Quark was named a recipient of National Geographic Traveler's "50 Tours of a Lifetime" for their "Three Arctic Islands" voyage.
