COLUMBUS, OH, November 10, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Columbus' award-winning science museum, COSI, is showcasing Gunther von Hagen's incredible BODY WORLDS & The Brain exhibit now through Jan. 6. Presented for the first time ever in Ohio, the exhibit shows visitors a rare glimpse of how the human body and mind function together internally, offering views of both the body and brain that are not outwardly visible. BODY WORLDS & The Brain and COSI are open seven days a week, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.

BODY WORLDS & The Brain presents the complexity and beauty of human anatomy and neuroscience in a way that holds everyone's interest and sparks spirited discussion. Visitors are in awe of the actual human bodies that make up the exhibit, with complete muscular systems and the brain's inner workings fully exposed. As a result, guests experience an in-depth look at the latest findings on the how human brain works, including its most esoteric possibilities and its true dimensions.

Enhancing COSI's already strong focus on medicine and wellbeing, more than 200 specimens make up the exhibit, including entire bodies, individual organs and transparent body slices, all presented through the groundbreaking Plastination technique that preserves bodies and specimens for study. Experiencing BODY WORLDS & The Brain leaves visitors marveling over displays that merge anatomy, neuroscience and philosophy in a moving, futuristic panorama.

Admission to BODY WORLDS & The Brain includes general admission to COSI: $24.95 for adults, $23.95 for seniors, $19.95 for children 2-12 and $17 for teachers with valid ID. COSI also offers special hours to view only BODY WORLDS & The Brain for $16: Thursday-Saturday, 5-9 p.m., Oct. 18-Dec. 22.

COSI is Columbus' dynamic hands-on science center and was recently named the #1 science center in the country by Parents Magazine. COSI features more than 300 interactive exhibitions and 100,000-plus square feet of exhibit space, a 7-story Extreme Screen Theater (the largest in Ohio), an outdoor science park, a special area for tiny explorers age 0-Kindergarten, and the country's only high-wire unicycle. COSI also offers a variety of special events, family programs, camps and more.

Dr. Gunther von Hagens invented Plastination in 1977, in an effort to improve the education of medical students. More than 13,000 donors have bequeathed their bodies to Dr. von Hagens' Institute for Plastination in Heidelberg, Germany. Individual donors have specifically designated that, upon their death, their bodies could be used for educational purposes in the BODY WORLDS exhibitions.
