According to figures from Abbey, there is a sharp increase in the loans being availed for weddings and funerals in the recent times.
As compared to last year January, this year there is a 32% increase in loan applications to cover the cost of weddings.
However, the loans for covering divorce costs have shown a decline of about 5%. But this doesn't mean that people in Britain are seeing only happy times. There has been an increase in the loans application for funerals by 10% in the month of January as compared to last year in the same month.
According to Paula Ickinger, Abbey's head of personal loans marketing, there is a sharp rise in the loan application for different aspects as more and more people are now borrowing for cosmetic surgery (50%), holidays (5%). Loans being availed for vehicles have shown a decrease of 14%.
Initially, people were not considering loans for cosmetic surgery but now the scenario is quite different as more and more people are indulging in the same.
January is the time when people sort out their finances. Debt consolidation loans are considered the most sought after way of consolidating debts and loans. It is still the major reason behind people availing unsecured loans.
