This means that management needs to know how to be proactive and legally communicate with employees about the impact of a union in the workplace. Lou Cappadona of Ventura County's largest law firm, Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton LLP, will enlighten business leaders on the topic in a 90-minute program entitled "Union Awareness 2009 - What Management Needs to Know." The morning seminar will be 7:30-9 a.m., June 3 in the firm's offices at 1000 Town Center Drive, 6th Floor, Oxnard.
"In these difficult economic times, employers need to know their rights with regard to these union issues." Cappadona said. "We will also discuss the so-called 'Employee Freedom of Choice Act,' that would do away with employee secret ballot elections."

Cappadona's practice covers a broad spectrum of traditional labor and employment law. He regularly represents employers before federal and state agencies and advises employers in union negotiations. Cappadona counsels in preventive law and developing personnel policies and employee handbooks. He has been a field attorney with the National Labor Relations Board and was a labor counsel for Litton Industries for several years. Cappadona is the program director and board member of the East Ventura County EAC, and also conducts in-house training for employer management teams.
