Lois E. Alston Recognized for Excellence in Computer and Network Security

Ms. Alston plans to focus more on management and leadership roles at Cisco

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA, January 05, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lois Alston, Technical Leader for Cisco Systems Inc., has been recognized by Worldwide Branding for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in computer and network security.

For 41 years, Lois Alston has been working on an outstanding technical career and honing her troubleshooting skills, currently working her way down to figuring out each problem at hand within her role as Technical Leader at Cisco Systems Inc. Throughout her work-week, she trains others in troubleshooting and learns specific programming languages such as python and Oracle PL-SQL. Ms. Alston was in the U.S. Navy for 21 years, with the last 14 having been spent in computing and supervision. She managed a diverse group of individuals specializing in Cobol and C++ programming languages, data entry operators and others during her U.S. Navy career.

The biggest challenge Ms. Alston has overcome has been being thrown into roles with limited experience and training. She has continuously and successfully worked her way through each. Her greatest accomplishment to date was being promoted to a significant level in the Navy. She was a Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-8), which is one rank below Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9), the top enlisted ranking. She is extremely fortunate in that she loves her job, management, and her workers. She would like to be known for always doing a great job and being passionate about her work.

Given that Ms. Alston has always worked within the technology realm, she has strived to work on the management aspects, too. Her goal is to focus more on the managerial and leadership area of Cisco to join those ranks. She is currently working with a coach/mentor to assist her in reaching her next goal in life. She is very interested in the area of security and would like to become more involved.

Ms. Alston is very passionate about assisting veterans to become successful in civilian life after they transition from military service. She is an active member of Cisco Veterans Employee Resource Group, working to assist veterans in making the transition from military to civilian life a smooth transition. She is also an advocate for making lives better and fighting cancers of all types, by supporting and being a member of Cisco's Cancer Support Network, which is there to support and educate Cisco employees.

Ms. Alston has been married to Gerald Alston for 22 years. She spends her spare time reading to keep her mind active and enriched.
