Los Angeles, California Alternative Rock Band "The Rift" Ranked #2 with China's Rock Fans. Only American Rock Group to Make the MusicDish.com Top 5 List

The Rift single, "Universe" finds favor in the burgeoning Chinese rock scene tracked by MusicDish.com.



    LOS ANGELES, CA, August 13, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- They say that big things are happening in China. According to ratings site MusicDish.com that tracks music genres around the world, new alternative rock band from Los Angeles, The Rift, is hitting it big with China's massive rock audience. The Rift has successfully taken the #2 position on the MusicDish.com song chart. The announcement was made on August 4, 2014 when the music tracking website published a list of China's Top Five Indie Music songs. Through aggregated plays of Chinese music portals, MusicDish.com research found that "Universe" by The Rift had "achieved a fast-growing and consistent fan base" giving them the #2 spot in the potentially largest rock music market on the planet.

Other bands that gained spots on the list were The Courtesans, Vinyl Floor. Voonix, and the Lectrophoniks. With the other bands hailing from Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Puerto Rico, it was an honor for The Rift from L.A. suburb Thousand Oaks, California, U.S.A. to be on the list in the #2 spot. When asked about the special recognition, The Rift drummer, John Anagnos responded, "We are so stoked and humbled to see our song 'Universe' enjoyed, especially in the largest country in Asia. Kind of ironic that 'Universe' would go global like this. We're all about the music and want to exposure it to as many fans as possible." The popular single, "Universe" has themes about an unknown future while finding oneself and is available on iTunes.

MusicDish.com China uses such portals as Ximalaya, Lizhi.fm, and Diandian (websites and apps much like BandCamp or Pandora here in the US) to gauge popularity and play count from multiple key cities and sites throughout China. This shows how bands like The Rift can successfully use multimedia and social media be discovered and grow a fan base beyond their own borders. The Rift and their new, unreleased single "Annabel Lee" was picked up be included in a documentary about former basketball rock star Dennis Rodman to air on a major cable network Fall 2014. The Rift Rodman connection was made through a Google search done by the documentary's producer, Bob Shami.
