Louis Charles Willard Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Willard has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the theology industry

SUN CITY CENTER, FL, August 16, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Louis Charles Willard a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Willard celebrates many years' experience in his professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Willard is likely a familiar face to generations of Ivy League students and researchers, having served for many years as librarian at Harvard Divinity School and the Princeton Theological Seminary. After lengthy service in religious studies, he graduated from the stacks and returned to sunny Florida.

Born in Tallahassee in 1937 to Bert and Rose Willard, Dr. Willard attended the University of Florida, earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1959, and became a teacher at the Tripoli Boy's School in Lebanon. His entry into the field of theological librarianship was not part of his original plan; however, through a series of organic events, Dr. Willard found himself drawn into the field, as he came to put it, providentially.

Dr. Willard was accepted into Yale University Divinity School, where he earned a Bachelor of Divinity in 1965. He was ordained into the ministry with the Presbyterian Church in that year. Two years later, he was awarded a Master of Arts. In 1968, he completed his residency and accepted appointment at the Princeton Theological Seminary as the acting librarian. He received the PhD from Yale in 1970. Dr. Willard was named James Lenox Librarian and served the seminary through mid-1986.

Later in 1986, Dr. Willard joined Harvard Divinity School as a member of the faculty and librarian. He served the school until 1999 and went on to become director of accreditation and institutional evaluation at the Association of Theological Schools. Dr. Willard retired in 2008. The publication in 2009 of Dr. Willard's dissertation, almost fifty years after it had originally been accepted, was one of the great moments of his career. "A Critical Study of the Euthalian Apparatus" stands as the definitive analysis of the scholarly study at that time of the collection of introductions, summaries, chapter lists, quotation lists, and briefer pieces related to Acts and the Pauline and Catholic Epistles that are found in many manuscripts of the New Testament, which is known as the Euthalian Apparatus.

Dr. Willard is a member of the American Library Association, the American Theological Library Association, the Society of Biblical Literature, the American Academy of Religion, Phi Beta Kappa, and Chi Pi. In addition to his dedicated role as a keeper of knowledge, Dr. Willard has also served as a keeper of tax returns and has been licensed as an Enrolled Agent since 1992.

For Dr. Willard's achievements in theology and in the preservation of knowledge for future generations, he was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World. He married Nancy Booth in 1963; they had a son, Michel Jonathan, who in turn made Dr. Willard a grandfather. His grandchildren are Pierre, Ezekiel, and Azariah.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Willard has been featured on the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievers website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
