Her professional affiliations include the American PEN Club, for which she served on the membership board, the Edna St. Vincent Millay Society, and Writers Room Inc., for which she formerly served as president. Notably, she has written numerous books, including "Waiting Out a War: The Exile of Private John Picciano," "Wild Apples," "My Father's Secret War," and most recently "Love, Morgenthau and Me." Ms. Franks has been honored for her professional accomplishments with a Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 1971, the Easter Seals Award, a National Headliners Award, and a New York Newspaper Writers Association Award. She has twice won the Society of the Silurians Award for Excellent Writing. She has also had the honor of inclusion in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the East and 10 editions of Who's Who of American Women.
