Lumeneering Partners with McMaster University to Develop Energy Efficient LED Lighting Systems and Receives a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Grant

Lumeneering Inc. has entered into a partnership with the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute at McMaster University to research and develop the Luma One LED panel. The partnership is funded under the Engage program of NSERC.

HAMILTON, ON, September 16, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lumeneering Inc. (Mountainview CA) has entered into a partnership with the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario to research and develop the recycling and manufacture of the Luma One light-emitting diode panel. The partnership is funded under the Engage program of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

"We are confident that the University will deliver the most innovative product design and manufacturing process for our Luma One panels," said Michael R. Freeman, Lumeneering's Chief Executive Officer. "We are extremely impressed with McMaster's team led by Dr. Michael Thompson and its state of the art facilities, "Elizabeth Takacs has worked tirelessly to help us through the process."

The plastics processing group of the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute, directed by Dr. Stephen Veldhuis, has extensive experience in facilitating research-guided product and process development as well as providing technical support to industries. Combining these assets with Lumeneering's capabilities and expertise in lighting and electronics will create the climate for successful, sustainable product design for the lighting industry.

JW Kim of Horizon Utilities has been very helpful and we already have met with them and the City of Hamilton's Economic Development Division to find ways to locate our facilities in Hamilton.

Lumeneering, Inc. has announced it will manufacture an acrylic panel of fully-automated Light Emitting Diodes (LED) and reflectors using recycled lenses from fluorescent lighting fixtures. The LED panels will be installed as retrofits in commercial buildings, promising a payback within two years for building owners by cutting lighting energy costs up to 90% as compared to fluorescent lighting.

Osram, an international lighting manufacturer, has agreed to provide LEDs for Lumineering's initial Luma One Luminous Panel. The patent-pending panel design includes an onboard microprocessor which communicates via power line with a network designed for control and programming. The Luma One Luminous panel features occupancy detection, time-of-day control, and dimming. The panel adheres to the DALI Standard for lighting control, with high-colour rendering properties as well as an industry leading power factor of 95%.

Michael R. Freeman, Lumineering's Chief Executive Officer, leads an experienced management team in both lighting retrofit and energy conservation. Mr. Freeman was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Mainstreet Networks, a utility smart metering company, from 1995 to 2001. He was also Chief Executive Officer of BFR Industries, Ltd, a Forbes 400 Fastest Growing Small Cap Business in Performance Contracting for Energy Management, from 1979 to 1993.
