MacStadium Awarded Two Patents for Custom Data Center Racks to Support its Apple Mac Infrastructure-as-a-Service Offerings

Both patents relate to designs for customized enclosures for small form servers made by Apple deployed in commercial data center facilities in the U.S. and Europe.

Combining MacStadium's proprietary data center rack designs with innovative engineering techniques and commercially available network adapters, MacStadium is able to transition the small form factor design of the Apple Mac mini and Mac Pro computers into enterprise class computing environments for mobile application development and large scale continuous integration development and testing environments. MacStadium currently holds 2 patents with several other applications pending relating to energy efficient data center infrastructure technology.

Apple Mac mini's energy efficient design exceeds the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR requirements by up to 7 times promoting the Mac mini as the world's most energy efficient desktop computer. Because of the reduced heat generated by the Mac mini at full power, MacStadium is able to use one of its two new patented designs to increase the density and footprint of Mac mini servers in a data center environment up to 5 times when compared to conventional rack infrastructure.
