/24-7PressRelease/ -- For 6 days, starting on May 17, Madeira Beach, on Florida's west coast, will be the center of the SUP universe. Two Stand Up Paddle competitions as a part of the The Gulf Coast Stand Up Paddleboard Championship presented by St. Pete/ Clearwater Sports Commission and a 4-day adventure camp with celebrity waterman and big wave surfer Dave Kalama.
Starting with the first-ever U.S. mainland "Adventure Camp" for Stand Up Paddlers, Kalama Kamp Florida will be held May 17-20 along the St. Pete/Clearwater area beaches. Limited to 15 participants, they will spend 4 days with Kalama, and be immersed in every dimension of the waterman lifestyle. The camp will feature outrigger canoes, stand up paddling, fitness classes and spa treatments as well as unmatched interaction with Kalama.
On Saturday, May 22, The Gulf Coast Stand Up Paddleboard Championship presented by St. Pete/Clearwater Sports Commission will take. The Elite Division Race will be a 9-mile circuit around Treasure Island, with the start/finish line just north of John's Pass in Madeira Beach. An Open Division Competition on a 3.5-mile course off of Madeira Beach will also be offered. The race is a WPA sanctioned event, and one the few SUP competitions featuring a cash purse ($2,500 in cash prizes for the Elite race; more than $2,000 in prizes for the Open Division).
