YPSILANTI, MI, April 03, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maggie's Organics has been recognized as one of the 2010 "Michigan 50 Companies to Watch," an awards program sponsored by the Edward Lowe Foundation and presented by "Michigan Celebrates Small Business".

Maggie's Organics will be honored at an awards ceremony during the sixth annual "Michigan Celebrates Small Business" event, April 29, 2020 in Lansing, Michigan. Governor Jennifer Granholm is scheduled to give the key note speech for the awards celebration that evening.

Maggie's Organics is an apparel company that was founded in 1992 by Bena Burda on the premise that all workers producing apparel should make a living wage and be treated ethically while doing so. In addition, clothing can be beautiful, durable, and affordable while being made with environment-sustaining materials. Maggie's manufactures socks, scarves, leg wear (leggings and tights), baby clothes and a new Fair Labor Certified line of apparel including: camisoles, hoodies, pants, wrap tops, tank tops, and dresses that are all made with certified organic fibers. Items are sold in natural food stores and clothing boutiques across the USA and Canada and at www.maggiesorganics.com.

"We are honored to receive this award as it acknowledges the hard work we have done recently to grow and sustain our business while being conscious of the environment and the social aspects of our production process. We look forward to more growth in the future and to meeting the needs of our customers along the way," said Bena Burda, President and Founder of Maggie's Organics.

"Now 300 strong, the second-stage businesses that comprise the Michigan 50 Companies to Watch have not only persevered through challenging times, but also found opportunities to grow," says Penny Lewandowski, director of entrepreneurship development at the Edward Lowe Foundation. "They continue to hire and develop new markets for their products and services. They are making a substantial difference in their communities -- and their industries. Our 2010 inductees are proof that entrepreneurs are, and always have been, the future of Michigan's economy."

Companies making it to the "Michigan 50 Companies to Watch" list are a remarkable group of second-stage companies. Defined as having 6 to 99 full-time-equivalent employees and generating $750,000 to $50 million in annual revenue or working capital from investors or grants, these companies form the back-bone of Michigan's economy. Representing all regions of the state and a diverse range of industries, companies like Maggie's Organics are known for their exceptional entrepreneurial leadership, creation of innovation or use of innovation in creative ways, and their sustainable competitive advantage.

Winners were selected by Michigan-based judges from the banking, economic development, entrepreneurship development and venture capital communities.
