Maine Tennis Association Announces 'Free Tennis Night in Maine' on September 6

In a partnership with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) of New England free tennis will be offered to players at all levels across the state in celebration of the sport.
SCARBOROUGH, ME, August 21, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Maine Tennis Association (MTA) in partnership with USTA New England announced they will hold the first ever "Free Tennis Night in Maine" at nine indoor tennis clubs from Portland to Bangor on Friday, September 6 to celebrate the sport across the state.

The MTA, along with support from USTA New England, is offering this free night as a way to get people back into the sport, celebrate the sport for those who currently play and reach out to new players in Maine. Each event will have a tennis professional on site to assist in a "no-pressure" night of friendly competition, education and socialization. All adults 18 and over are invited to attend at no charge.

"Tennis is a lifetime sport, if you played earlier in your life and stopped, this is an opportunity to get back in the game. If you've always wanted to try it out while under professional supervision, this gives you an opportunity without risk. Tennis is a fun, relaxing, cardio-healthy activity that we want to share with everyone in Maine," Ron Friedman, former president of the MTA, said.

Friedman explained there are tennis programs at the event for players at every level, from those new to the sport, to more seasoned players looking to get back into the game. People are encouraged to attend and bring a friend.

"We want everybody and anybody who has ever played, or who thought about playing," Friedman said. "All you need to bring are your sneakers and a positive attitude. This is going to be fun!"

Registrations will be handled by the individual locations. To find a location near you, visit and click on "Free Tennis Night in Maine" for a complete listing.
