/24-7PressRelease/ - MUMBAI, INDIA, January 06, 2007 - The production growth in the overall GPS manufacturing industry in Greater China, which comprises of China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, will mirror the worldwide trends and mark a slight downfall as the makers reduce the output of current models to prevent oversupply.

The projected overall output of the makers in this current report is about 9.21 million units, which is a growth of about 54 per cent from the aggregate output of about 6 million units in 2006.

This sourcing report provides information of about 42 makers of in-vehicle GPS devices; 17 from mainland China, 23 from Taiwan, and two from Hong Kong. The report mentions that GPS devices will continue braking into the consumer electronics market in 2007. Also, more emphasis will be given to hybrid models that integrate mobile entertainment, realtime information delivery and increased position accuracy. Some of the brands identified are Dell, Motorola, Samsung, T-Mobile, Volkswagen etc.

Taiwan makers will mainly focus on personal navigation devices and personal tracking systems, which are further expected to stimulate the demand for GPS products in the coming years. Large-scale makers in China expect a decrease of about 10-14 per cent in the current year. Also, the entry of newcomers as well as the increased research and development momentum will result in new product releases for the mid-range and high-end markets. Likewise, the exports will also grow, as more makers boost their overseas business.
