She retains membership to the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau International.

Maj. Smith, who holds a master's degree in nursing from Loyola New Orleans University, became involved in her profession because of her love of people. Under the guidance of her faith, she has achieved great success and intends to become a lieutenant colonel in the future.
