/24-7PressRelease/ - January 05, 2008 - Ohio thinks of itself as the state that actually decides who will become the US president. Some want to see the state set the example for developing electricity markets, too. Lawmakers once did decide in favor of competition and now may be ready to make markets really work.

Join Restructuring Today, the nation's leading trade publication chronicling ongoing efforts to open competitive energy markets, and this panel of Ohio policymakers and energy industry leaders on Friday, February 1, 2008 from noon to 1:30 PM EST for a live, interactive audio discussion on making competitive electricity markets work in Ohio:

• Alan Schriber is the chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio where he heads the 400-person agency that oversees the regulation of electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water and commercial transportation in the state of Ohio. Schriber also chairs the Ohio Power Siting Board that reviews, evaluates and approves the siting of electric generation plants and electric and natural gas transmission lines. He regularly testifies before the Ohio General Assembly on various utility issues and legislation and has testified before Congress.

• John Hagan is a member of the Ohio House of Representatives and chairman of the House Public Utilities Committee. He also serves as the chairman of the Economic Development and Environment and the Ways and Means committees. Other appointments include the Ohio Power Siting Board, the Transportation Improvement District Board of Trustees of Stark County, the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council and Implementing States for Streamlined Sales and Use Tax System.

• Janine Migden-Ostrander oversees the Office of the Ohio Consumer's Counsel that represents the interests of Ohio's 4.5 million residential households with their investor-owned electric, natural gas, telephone and water companies. She has championed a variety of energy and telecom policies including integrated portfolio management, alternative sources of energy, energy efficiency programs and innovative rate designs in the energy industry to the delivery of broadband services and other technologies to rural and urban customers. Migden-Ostrander has also made it an agency priority to find solutions for the growing number of customers who struggle with affordability of utility services.

• Terry Harvill is vice president and director of retail energy policy for Constellation Energy Resources, one of the nation's leading energy companies with combined revenues in 2006 of $19.2 billion. The firm was named the Most Admired Energy Company in America by FORTUNE Magazine in 2005. Harvill is responsible for the development and implementation of Constellation's federal and state government and regulatory policies in North America. Before joining Constellation, Harvill served as a commissioner of the Illinois Commerce Commission where he was responsible for electric, natural gas and telecommunications restructuring/deregulation legislative efforts at both the state and federal level.

• Craig Baker is senior vice president of regulatory services for American Electric Power Service (AEP). He is responsible for AEP's regulatory activities before eleven state regulatory commissions and FERC. A major focus of his activities since 1998 has been AEP's participation in regional transmission organizations including AEP's participation in PJM, the Southwest Power Pool RTO and ERCOT. Since joining AEP in 1968, Baker has held positions in information systems, system operation, corporate planning and budgeting, energy marketing and trading and transmission policy.
