"An EMS program can only be truly successful at saving lives if as many laypeople get involved as possible. Those first few minutes are critical" said Terri Smith, longtime educator and Executive Director of Manheim Township Ambulance Association.
Shortly after that, the Association will be unveiling a CPR education initiative, which takes aim to train as many residents as possible in CPR (Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation), with a stated goal of 15% of the residents in the Township. This accommodates for a total of approximately 3500 people.
The next step is a fall prevention initiative, which will take referrals from local aging agencies to connect our residents to fall prevention devices, after being assessed for falls by our staff. Our goal is to reduce the risk for recurrent falls, a common injury in the elderly population.
Expanding on the theme of prevention, January begins the health education outreach initiative This program calls for agreements with local business and industry, to distribute information to local residents regarding a quarterly health topic.
