/24-7PressRelease/ - February 06, 2008 - The investment team who secured this move hope that he will be able to score some much needed goals for the team and continue UD Marbella's ascent in the Spanish Second Division B. He joins another international signing, Belgium born Valentín Gino Nicola Goffin, who transferred from Benidorm on the same day.

Carl Cort is a 30-year-old English centre forward who is moving from Leicester City to continue his career in the warmer climate of Marbella. He is naturally fast and tall and has a good goal scoring record in the English Premiership. The coach feels that with these skills, Carl will fit in well to the Marbella team.

Career overview
Cort played for the England under-21 team as a teenager and went on to impress Sir Bobby Robson who took him to Newcastle United for an impressive 7 million. He took his place in the Newcastle team in 2000, playing alongside the legendary Alan Shearer for four years. He scored on his home debut against Derby for Newcastle and after injury issues went on to score five goals in ten appearances before the season ended in 2001.

He moved over to Wolves in 2004 and scored 31 goals in 78 starts for the Midlands Club. He stayed with the club for three years, before moving to Leicester City in June 2007. Whilst there he had one of his career highlights, scoring for the club against Chelsea in a Carling Cup match on 31 October. The goal became Leicester City's Goal of the Month and brought Cort into the limelight once more.

Future in Marbella
Ian Radford of Hi Group and Chief Executive of Marbella Football Club has recently followed Cort's career with interest and feels he has great potential to boost UD Marbella's quality of play. "Carl is a great player, but his form has been affected by injury. His speed and goal scoring ability will be a great asset to Marbella and we hope that the warm weather will help him stay fit and enable him to play to his full potential. For some time, a transfer to a South African team seemed on the cards, so we are thrilled to have persuaded him to choose Marbella."

Cort will debut at their quarter-final match of the Federation Cup on Wednesday 6 February and is keen to get out there and impress the fans. "This move is a great opportunity for me to play some exciting football and boost the team's performance.
I know Marbella well and look forward to starting my new life here both on and off the pitch."
