Maria I. Serban Inducted into Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Integrated Wellness

    Calgary, Alberta, Canada, February 14, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maria I. Serban, director and managing partner for the Centre for Integrative Wellness, Inc., has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in integrated wellness.

Ms. Serban has been in health care related business for 19 years in the public and private sector. Previously, she excelled as an Assistant Director a.i. for the British Council, Romania (Head of the Projects Unit). In that position, she was an international project coordinator for education, health care reform, local government and public administration. Within that capacity, she was largely responsible for capacity building and tremendous financial growth. She worked with hospitals, midwifery and nursing associations, homecare organizations and the Administration of Health in Romania for four years. The British Council is a developmental organization of the British Embassy.

She was also the EU Regional Representative for Southern Kosovo (Prizren Region) with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, UNMIK and Country Director/Trans-Frontier Cooperation Project Kosovo/Serbia/Macedonia with the East-West Institute, New York. She came to Toronto, Canada in 2002 and moved to Calgary in 2005 to take up the General Manager's position with the Canadian Sleep Institute. Later, she worked at the Hoffman Centre for Integrative Medicine, as well as the Centre for Preventive Medicine now the Centre for Integrative Wellness, Inc.). Her responsibilities include day-to-day business management, marketing, HR, corporate liaisons, negotiating contracts with Alberta health services, etc.

Ms. Serban received a Postgraduate Degree in Journalism from Academia Istropolitana Nova, Slovakia and holds a Master of Arts in British Literature, which she earned in 1990 from the University of Bucharest, Romania. She is certified in Project Management through Open University, UK & the British Council and certified in Financial Management through the Palliser Group, Canada. Ms. Serban is a board member of the Calgary North Rotary Club; president of the Romanian-Canadian Cultural Association of Calgary; and a member of The Volunteer Corp of the Calgary Public Library. She is also an Honorary member of The Romanian Midwifery Association and a co-founder of the Romanian Federation of Municipalities and the Kosovo Federation of Municipalities. In 2012, she was the recipient of the Community Spirit Award through Calgary City Hall /Calgary Public Library.
