/24-7PressRelease/ -- Mark Ballas, the winner of the latest season of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," caught up with TheCelebrityCafe.com to discuss his television show and a life devoted to stage entertainment.
Ballas's parents are world champion dancers. When asked about how he got into dancing however, he replied, "when I was younger, I saw a bunch of kids dancing and that's what made me want to start dancing." This may not be the answer one would expect from someone who grew up with dancers for parents. However, it also shows that his interest in the art of dancing was born in him, and not forced upon him by his parents.
Ballas had been dancing professionally with Julianne Hough (another winning dancer from DWTS) by the time he got the call to be a part of the show. He says that his favorite partners from the show were Kristi Yamaguchi and Shawn Johnson (with whom he won the contest for season eight).
"They're both athletes...they are used to having coaches, so it's easier for them to listen to instructions"
Ballas also said he was impressed with Kim Kardashian because she "gave everything she had."
The dancer was modest about his training routine, revealing little more than, "I treat every week like it's the last week."
Ballas also opened up about his burgeoning music career. He plays guitar and sings for Ballas Hough Band, a dual songwriting effort with friend and fellow DWTS contestant Derek Hough.
"The band is pop with a funky edge. We've been together for nine years...We released our debut album, BHB (Ballas Hough Band), earlier this year. Fans can expect our second album at the end of the year."
He says that music is his passion, but tries to integrate his dancing into performances with his band
"I move a lot when I sing."
Ballas said aspiring musicians and dancers should: "Just follow your heart. Be happy and do what you love."
Season nine of "Dancing With the Stars" will begin Sept. 21.
