AMHERST, OH, September 25, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mark McKinley, EdD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. McKinley celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A psychology professor who spent 48 years teaching at Lorain County Community College in Ohio until officially retiring in 2012, still Professor Emeritus teaching online psychology courses, Dr. McKinley has left behind a legacy of greatness. After spending three years at Saint Clair Community College in Port Huron, Michigan, he was recruited to teach at LCCC, which was founded just three years prior to his employment. Offering associate degrees, short-term certificates, and workforce training opportunities, the college was founded in 1963, and is part of The University System of Ohio, one of the largest comprehensive public systems of higher education in the nation.

Born in Detroit in 1939, Dr. McKinley went on to graduate from Traverse City Junior/High School, attend Northwestern Michigan College, where he initially discovered his passion for psychology, and later transferred to Michigan State University, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. While working toward his Master's degree, he was married and became a full-time construction engineer. Becoming a father of his daughter, Laura, he soon after began teaching in higher education. Once he became well-acclimated at LCCC, he pursued an EdD, which he completed at Nova Southeastern University in 1977 before moving onto additional graduate work at Kent State University.

A trailblazer in his field, Dr. McKinley was responsible for teaching the very first online course at LCCC in 1998; Intro to Psychology. Throughout his tenure, this course always remained his favorite among the countless courses he has taught. Among a few other professors, he was able to be a part of the first study-abroad credit offerings at the college. With a colleague, Dr. McKinley initiated and served as co-tour director for eight European tours. He was also the first faculty member to present an academic paper at an international conference in Edinburgh, Scotland.

A longtime member of the American Psychological Association, Dr. McKinley's research spans across decades. His first original research work, however, was specific to the meaning of the cry-language of babies, which was produced in a record/audio format. Designed to be used as a learning opportunity for new parents, "Cry-Language of Babies" was produced by Folkways Records and has since been archived in the Smithsonian Museum. Receiving much acclaim, Hollywood legends like Paul McCartney and Margret Trudeau had requested copies for themselves. It was also spoken about via an AP wire story, as a segment on CBS national news, and was featured in the "Weekly Reader" alongside a photo.

The author of nearly 10 books, including "I Beg Your Pardon, but Your Id is Showing," "Psychological Experiences," and "Tick Tock Talk: The Collected History and Significance of Talking Clocks," and more than 20 published articles on various topics, including dream analysis, academic testing, and talking clocks, Dr. McKinley also served as a business consultant, public speaker, producer of several award-winning videos, including "Subliminal Persuasion" and "Body Language." He also served as creator of a computer game called "Psyche Trivia," and host of a 35-week radio program called "Mark My Word" on WLRO.

Well-known on campus for his collection of clocks, which he had on display in his Office-Museum, one former student, Mika Johnson, even co-wrote, directed, and a produced a 32-minute documentary called "Forever Professor," about Dr. McKinley's obsession with time, which premiered at the 2015 Cleveland International Film Festival and ran theatrically in March of that year. He is the curator of the world's largest collection of talking clocks, for a total of 782 as noted by The Guinness Book of World Records. Dr. McKinley has also written a total of four books about clocks, and is the founder of the International Society of Talking Clock Collectors, a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve the passage of time.

Married to present wife Susan; his former wife Judy, with whom he had one daughter, then a son-in-law, and two grandchildren, Dr. McKinley shares his love for wine with his family, loves to travel to his 40-acre property in the wilderness of his High Mountain Kingdom in Kern County, CA, grows and cares for ferns and bamboo, and relaxes while reading some of his favorite authors. Named to three editions of Who's Who of American in recognition of his work, Dr. McKinley also has a scholarship in his name at LCCC, The McKinley Psychology Scholarship, which is ongoing and sponsors one student per year with a similar passion for psychology.
