When a small coffee shop, Pangea Cafe, in downtown Clearwater, FL closed its doors, Joy Gendusa, CEO and Founder of PostcardMania, had a novel idea.
Gendusa decided right then to purchase all of the cafe's equipment from the hard-luck entrepreneur and install it in the kitchen of her own company, PostcardMania. This is no self-serve cafe. Gendusa actually hired Pangea's barista full-time to make and serve drinks for her 170+ staff.
"I couldn't stand that one of my favorite spots, Pangea, was going away, and I thought this would be a great way to reward my staff," says Gendusa. "They worked their tails off last year, making it the best year in the history of the company. So they've earned it."
This is well-appreciated, but hardly unexpected by the employees of PostcardMania, who already work in a top-notch facility and enjoy numerous company benefits.
"The thing I like about it," says Eric Helmer, PostcardMania's Website Development Manager, "is that I can order from my desk. I don't have to waste time leaving the office or my seat because anything I order is delivered right to where I sit."
Employees have the ability to instant message their orders directly to the in-house barista stationed downstairs in the kitchen. Gendusa expects this feature to not only boost morale, but also to result in greater productivity and higher sales.
PostcardMania's new cafe features coffee and espresso from Latitude Coffee, a local roaster based in Sarasota, FL. It also has exotic teas such as Mountain Spring Jasmine and Tropical Green Tea, and will soon be offering fresh, hot pastries to satisfy the cravings of even the hungriest Maniacs.
