Marquis Who's Who Honors Dr. Mary Louise Voorhess for Achievements in Pediatric Medicine

She was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

    WILLIAMSBURG, VA, January 17, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mary Louise Voorhess has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Voorhess is a pediatric endocrinologist who began her education at the City Hospital School of Nursing in Binghamton, NY where she first became a registered nurse. She then pursued a bachelor's degree in Zoology from The University of Texas at Austin and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Subsequently, she earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Baylor College of Medicine (Houston) and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. She continued her education and training as a rotating intern and pediatric resident at Albany Medical Center (NY) and as a Fellow in Pediatric Endocrinology and Genetics (NIH Training Grant) at State University of New York Health Science Center in Syracuse, NY. Then she was awarded a Research Career Development Award from the National Cancer Institute and became a full time faculty member at SUNY Syracuse. She advanced to Professor of Pediatrics and was Acting Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, SUNY Health Science Center (Syracuse) from 1970-72. Dr. Voorhess joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at SUNY School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in Buffalo in 1976 and became co-chief, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at Buffalo Children's Hospital. She was Acting Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics 1988-89. At retirement in 1991, Dr. Voorhess was made Professor Emerita of Pediatrics, SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and was given the Dean's Award for Distinguished Service to the University.

Dr. Voorhess was Board Certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology. She was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She was a member of the Society for Pediatric Research, American Pediatric Society, Endocrine Society, Pediatric Endocrine Society, American Federation for Clinical Research, American Society of Andrology and the New York Academy of Sciences.

She conducted research dedicated to finding or funding treatment and cures for childhood diseases. She served on the Council of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences; Medical Director of the Children's Growth Foundation (Bflo); Advisor for the Association for Research of Childhood Cancer (Bflo); Advisory for Interim Health Care, Inc. (Bflo); Member of the Development Council of Children's Hospital Foundation (Bflo). Dr. Voorhess contributed articles to professional journals and wrote chapters for books. She was an ad hoc reviewer of articles in pediatrics and endocrinology which were submitted for publication in various journals.

Dr. Voorhess has been honored with features in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
