With more than 50 years of experience in the legal industry, Mr. Doke has served as a partner with Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP since 1996. Prior to obtaining this role, he was a partner with McKenna & Cuneo from 1993 to 1996, and a founding partner of Doke & Riley from 1987 to 1992. Earlier in his career, he was a founding partner with Rain Harrell Emery Young & Doke from 1965 to 1987, and an associate with Thompson, Knight, Wright & Simmons from 1962 to 1965, having worked with the firm in 1959 as well.

Mr. Doke began his career as a student at Hardin-Simmons University, obtaining a BA, magna cum laude, in 1956. He went on to earn an LLB, magna cum laude, with Southern Methodist University in 1959, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Southwestern Law Journal and received the award for his classes highest three-year grade average. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association (ABA), and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims Advisory Council. He is admitted to practice in the State of Texas, as well as before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

A trusted representative for his clients, Mr. Doke's areas of expertise include many areas of law. Some of his specialties include construction, government affairs, government contracts, government procurement and privatizations, and litigation. In addition, he is an expert in changes claims, breach of contract, suspension and disbarment, default terminations, and defective pricing, as well as the FCPA, the Buy American Act, export controls, and the False Claims Act. He has been appointed an administrator of the OMB's Office of Federal Procurement Policy to the Acquisition Advisory Panel, and he has testified before the U.S. Senate Homeland Security Committee's Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight and before several committees of the U.S. House of Representatives.

In addition to his primary roles, he has served in a number of leadership positions with professional organizations. He is a former president of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims Bar Association, a former chair of the American Bar Association Section of Public Contract Law, and he served as a delegate to the ABA House of Delegates for more than 30 years. He is a former president of the Boards of Contract Appeals Bar Association and he has served on the ABA Board of Governors, as chair of the ABA Audit Committee and as co-chair of the ABA National Conference of Lawyers and Certified Public Accountants. Additionally, he was chair of the ABA Conference of Section and Division Delegates, on the Federal Circuit Bar Association Board of Governors, and as president and director of the American Bar Retirement Association.

As a respected voice and leading expert in his field, Mr. Doke has been recognized numerous times throughout his career for his contributions. Lawdragon named him the Nation's Top Government Contract Lawyer, and named to their Hall of Fame in Leadership in 2015. Chambers USA called him a Legend of the Profession, and one of the senior statesmen of the government contracts bar. He has been listed as a Texas Super Lawyer, and he has been recognized by Best Lawyers.
